We have a special presentation from Sally Robinson, VP of Advocacy for the NYS League of Women Voters on the potential for a NYS Constitutional Convention and what that means for us.
The NYS Constitution mandates that every 20 years, voters be presented with the ballot question “shall there be a convention to revise the constitution and revise the same?” This coming November 2017, you will be asked to vote on this question, the outcome of which could have a significant impact on the direction of the politics and policies of NYS.
Did you know that the NYS Constitution is seven times longer than the U.S. Constitution? And one of the longest in the nation?
More importantly, Ansonia members have asked:
· What does having a Constitutional Convention mean?
· What should we do about the upcoming ballot question?
· How might we think about this?
Come to our next meeting to learn more about the Convention process and what the key issues will be.
We will also be voting on our slate of Ansonia club officers for 2017. Stay tuned for the proposed slate.
This meeting is open to all. Bring a friend. Bring a question.
